Roasted Chana Dal Chutney

 
Chutney, the best thing that works wonders as a side dish. Eat it with roti-sabzi, dal-rice, dhoklas, dosas, etc. Indians also have this habit of consuming it with snacks. And, if the chutney is spicy, then it’s the best thing. To make this Chana Dal chutney is not at all difficult. In fact, the ingredients are easily available in the kitchen. A recipe that is loved by all age groups of people. And the best part is that you can even reduce the amount of spiciness. 
 
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup Chana Dal
  • 9-10 curry leaves
  • 3 pinches black pepper powder
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/4 tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoon mustard oil
  • Salt as per the taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 red chillies
Making of Chana Dal Chutney:
 
1. Take a pan and heat it on a medium flame. Add Chana Dal to the pan and roast till the dal turns golden. Remove from the pan and allow the dal to cool. Once the dal is cooled, add it into the blender and blend into a smooth paste.
 
2. Now, add oil in a pan. Once the oil is heated, add cumin seeds to the pan and saute for about 30 seconds. Now, add red chillies and saute them for about a minute. Now, add the blended Chana Dal to the pan and saute for about a minute. 
 
3. Add salt and pepper to the chutney and mix well. Once the chutney is ready, switch off the gas and allow the chutney to cool. Serve it with Vada or Idli or you can also relish with any Indian snacks. Store the remaining Chana Dal chutney in the container and keep it in the refrigerator.
